Sometimes, a glamorous career conceals many of the most tragic stories. Lolo Jones, who took home the USA and the World Championships for hurdle events in 2013, been able to achieve this level through a great deal of effort and tremendous patience. Jones had a difficult childhood due to her being the sole child of a mother with a large family. Her mother was constantly moving and lived for a time in the church basement. A life of constant movement led Jones to change schools and attend the same school each year up until her first day of high school. At Theodore Roosevelt High School Jones was separated from her mother to pursue her interests in athletics. Her family was split up throughout high school, so that she was capable of focusing on her academics. Jones also performed as a cellist for the orchestra at school.
